BOOK REVIEW :
"The Unscriptured" by Sourish Roy is a captivating exploration of Bengal's cultural and historical heritage. The story revolves around the Bagchi family, whose Durga Puja celebrations are disrupted by the sudden death of their priest and the theft of a sacred 19th-century Devi Durga statuette. This relic, deeply tied to the family's spiritual and cultural legacy, sets the stage for a gripping mystery. Rest you have to discover...
The author's sophisticated and vivid vocabulary is a standout feature of the novel, highlighting his linguistic prowess. The complex prose adds significant depth to the narrative, making it particularly appealing to literary fiction enthusiasts.
For readers willing to engage with its intricacies, this elaborate language enriches the story and provides an immersive experience. Both Debashish and Joyeeta are enjoyable characters and I would say they both are beautifully portrayed in their complementary roles.
However, the novel's intricate and detailed writing style, with its long paragraphs and non-linear structure, demands a high level of engagement from readers. While this complexity offers a richly immersive experience, it may be off-putting for some. Additionally, the book could have been more engaging with the inclusion of maps and flowcharts to help readers navigate the historical and cultural references.
For history lovers and literary enthusiasts, this book is a treasure trove of cultural insights and historical mysteries.
