ABOUT THE AUTHOR :

Shakun Sharma, an Indian writer and poet. I write about healing, self-love, mental health, and the quiet resilience it takes to survive days no one sees.Writing found me during some of the most difficult phases of my life and became both refuge and release. I hold a postgraduate degree in Computer Applications and have worked as a teacher, but words have always been where I return to make sense of becoming.I am the author of Heal Yourself, Subdued Words of a Lonely Soul, and The Quiet Dawn. My work is gentle, raw, and deeply human, written for those who feel deeply and heal slowly.I share my writing and curate a poetry community on Instagram at @thesubduedwords, and I write in the hope that even the softest words can help someone breathe a little easier.

BOOK REVIEW :

Not every dawn arrives with brilliant colours. Some begin as a faint glow after the longest night, almost unnoticed until the darkness starts to loosen its grip. ๐Ÿ“‘”The Quiet Dawn” beautifully captures that fragile transition. Through deeply personal and emotionally honest poems, Shakun Sharma explores what it means to survive life’s heaviest seasons while holding onto the possibility of softer days ahead.

Divided into five thoughtfully curated sections—The Breaking & Grief, The Mirror and The Self, Love & Loss, The Child, Memory & Softness, and Hope, Light & Becoming—the collection mirrors the emotional rhythm of recovery. Rather than following a conventional narrative, the poems unfold like journal entries written during sleepless nights, each carrying a different shade of vulnerability while remaining connected by a shared thread of resilience.

One of the book’s greatest strengths is its emotional honesty. Sharma writes with remarkable restraint, never dramatizing pain or romanticizing suffering. The poems acknowledge grief, loneliness, exhaustion, and the quiet battles we fight within ourselves, yet they refuse to let those emotions define the final destination. There is a gentle movement throughout the collection—from darkness toward light, not through dramatic transformation, but through acceptance, self-compassion, and the simple decision to keep going.

What impressed me most was the author’s understanding of silence. Many contemporary poetry collections rely on elaborate metaphors or striking imagery to make an impact, but The Quiet Dawn finds its power in simplicity. The language is accessible, conversational, and deeply sincere. Every poem feels less like a performance and more like a trusted friend sitting beside you without demanding explanations. That emotional authenticity makes the collection incredibly relatable.

As someone who enjoys poetry that lingers long after the final page, I found The Quiet Dawn to be quietly unforgettable. It doesn’t rush toward hope, nor does it pretend healing is linear. Instead, it honours the slow, often invisible process of becoming whole again. The poems encourage readers to sit with their emotions rather than escape them, making this collection especially meaningful for anyone navigating grief, change, burnout, or emotional healing.

Literarily, Sharma demonstrates an admirable balance between vulnerability and craft. The recurring themes of memory, identity, love, childhood, and resilience are woven together with consistency, giving the collection cohesion without becoming repetitive. The pacing feels intentional, allowing readers to pause, reflect, and absorb each emotional shift at their own rhythm.

This is not a book to race through in one sitting. It is one to keep by your bedside, revisit during quiet mornings, or return to whenever life feels particularly heavy. Each reading reveals new emotional layers, making the collection increasingly rewarding over time.
