ABOUT THE AUTHOR :
Ankesh is a Computer Science Engineer by day and a storyteller by night, weaving logic and imagination into his debut crime thriller, They Would Die For You!—a raw, unflinching novel that delves into the complexities of protection, morality, and existential grit.
Off the page, he thrives in cheerful chaos, trading Bollywood puns with his brother (who insists he's the mature one) and navigating spirited debates with his 16 cousins (yes, sixteen—he has the family group chat to prove it). While his world is filled with warmth and humor, his writing explores darker ahd more complex themes, revealing a rare versatility.
He credits this duality to his family and friends: the shared joy that keeps him grounded and the quiet observations that fuel his imagination. Based in Bengaluru, he codes, he writes, and in between he tries to convince people that his creativity isn’t a bug—it’s one of his most vital features.
BOOK REVIEW :
Some mysteries begin with a murder. Ajar begins with a town that has been hiding one for twenty-five years.
Set in the hauntingly secretive town of Blackridge, this crime thriller wastes no time pulling readers into its web of deception, betrayal, and buried truths. What initially appears to be a straightforward murder investigation quickly unfolds into something far more layered, where every revelation raises new questions and every character seems to be hiding a piece of the puzzle.
One of the novel’s greatest strengths is its trio of compelling perspectives. Isla Dalton, a former master thief determined to rebuild her life, is immediately thrust into the centre of a murder she never expected to witness. Detective Talia Vance provides the grounded investigative lens, steadily peeling back Blackridge’s carefully preserved secrets. Then there’s Wyatt Callaghan, whose increasingly fractured reality adds an unsettling psychological dimension that keeps you questioning what is real and what is imagined.
The author skillfully balances mystery with psychological suspense. Rather than relying solely on shocking twists, the story builds tension through atmosphere, character conflicts, and the lingering weight of the past. The abandoned histories, corporate corruption, family secrets, and an unresolved tragedy from decades ago intertwine seamlessly, creating a narrative that rewards patient readers who enjoy piecing together clues.
What I particularly appreciated was how the novel blurs the line between innocence and guilt. No character feels entirely black or white, making every chapter more unpredictable than the last. Blackridge itself almost becomes a character—quiet, unsettling, and filled with memories that refuse to stay buried.
The pacing remains consistently engaging, though the intricate network of characters and timelines demands attention. If you’re someone who enjoys fast-paced thrillers with emotional depth, morally complex characters, and mysteries that slowly tighten their grip until the final pages, Ajar is a rewarding read.
Ajar is an absorbing blend of crime fiction, psychological suspense, and mystery that reminds us that the most dangerous doors are often the ones left slightly open.
