BOOK REVIEW :

What if Draupadi refused to marry

the five Pandava brothers? What if she chose peace over revenge, voice over silence, and love over duty?

Saniya Inamdar’s Panchaali: The Princess of Peace dares to reimagine the most controversial woman of the Mahabharata not as a catalyst of war, but as a symbol of calm rebellion. This powerful re-narration traces the journey of Draupadi—not as a mythical pawn—but as a woman questioning her existence, fighting against the imposed identity of a “common wife,” and forging a path that echoes strength, identity, and dignity.

From the very beginning, the prose is lyrical yet layered with emotional depth. We step into Panchaali’s mind as she awakens from ignorance to consciousness and ultimately reaches enlightenment. Her inner voice—at first fractured, becomes whole with Krishna, her Sakha, her only constant. Their bond is beautifully intimate—pure, platonic, and profoundly spiritual.

What stands out is the book’s unwavering dedication to every girl and woman who has ever been silenced, shamed, or subjugated. With unapologetic conviction, Draupadi refuses to marry five brothers, even at the risk of inciting war. Her resistance is not rooted in pride but in clarity of purpose and self-worth. She challenges not just tradition but also destiny.

The narrative unfolds in rich, reflective chapters—Draupadi and Dhrishtadyumna, The Swayamwara, Ganika and Panchaali, Durvasa and Panchaali—each offering a fresh perspective on characters we thought we already knew.

🌿 Why Read This?

If you love myth retellings with a feminist lens

If you seek an emotionally resonant story about identity and agency

If you believe in the quiet power of peace over war

This isn’t Draupadi the firebrand, nor is she the tragic queen. She’s Panchaali—a woman who dared to choose. And in doing so, she reclaims her own myth.
