BOOK REVIEW :

✨ A quiet celebration of resilience in the face of life’s ordinary and extraordinary battles.

Uma Yoganand’s Echoes of the Past is a heartfelt collection that reminds us why short stories matter. With each story, she opens a window into the lives of everyday individuals who, through sheer determination and belief, rise to the occasion and etch their names in the tapestry of purpose and perseverance.

The collection features eight stories, each grounded in emotion and realism—be it “First Love” tinged with innocence and nostalgia, “Rukmini” and “Srividya” exploring womanhood and inner strength, or “Jungian”, which takes us through the bold aspirations of Anita as she chases her passion in New York. Particularly intriguing is “Sampat”, a narrative that weaves journalism and idealism in an ode to visionaries like Gopal Krishna Gokhale.

What sets this collection apart is its simplicity. The prose is clean, comforting, and reflective—like a warm conversation on a rainy day. Each character is flawed yet inspiring, ordinary yet unforgettable. Yoganand’s writing doesn’t scream; it resonates. It’s a book you return to for quiet strength.

Yes, there are minor shortcomings—some stories feel a little rushed, and a few endings are somewhat predictable—but these are easily overlooked when weighed against the emotional impact the book delivers.

Perfect for readers who enjoy meaningful slice-of-life fiction, Echoes of the Past is a gentle reminder that success isn’t always loud or flamboyant. Sometimes, it’s simply about showing up with hope, every single day.
