If you’ve been waiting for my detailed review of The Colony Brats, here it is! Let me tell you upfront—this book is a whirlwind of emotions, laughter, and moments that make you pause and reflect.While I’m careful not to spoil the surprises that await you in its pages, the story focuses on Niv, short for the tongue-twisting Nivrutti Nandan Nedumpilly Nair. Niv narrates a tale that is equal parts outrageous and heartfelt, reflecting the life of kids growing up in Sawalpur, a small town centered around a cement factory.
Niv is an exceptionally well-developed character. His realism and relatability are what make him so memorable. The author’s ability to bring Niv’s story to life is commendable, and you can feel the authenticity that comes from its inspiration being drawn from real events. The supporting cast, particularly Baiju and the other “colony brats,” bring layers of humor, chaos, and camaraderie to the narrative.
The first few chapters start slow, but once the story finds its rhythm, it’s impossible to put the book down. The pacing picks up dramatically, pulling you into the whirlwind of adventures and mischiefs of these defiant kids-turned-rebellious adults.
